What is Counselling? Many people are unsure what to expect from a counselling session. Sometimes, clients present with an immediate trauma such as for example, loss, bereavement or family/relationship difficulties. Others may have a deep seated issue which can go back over many years and is often the root cause of lack of confidence and self esteem, anxiety and depression. Counselling offers a safe time and place to explore your feelings, understand more about you and the changes you would like to make. It may not be easy, and sometimes counselling can be sad and painful, because when feelings of anger, resentment, grief or anxiety are kept inside, it is difficult to contain them. As a Counsellor I will not judge you, I will accept your words and feelings, and encourage you to express them. Counselling can help to widen your choices in life and increase your self esteem. It is not about giving advice or telling you what to do. Counselling provides you with the tools and self confidence in order that you can decide what future path to take in life. You may wish to concentrate on one particular problem or look at your life in general. Everyone is different and those differences are both recognised and respected. My principal work is with individuals, but I have successfully worked with couples on relationship and sexual problems. Whatever the case, you can be assured that I work to a very strict code of ethics in accordance with the B.A.C.P. Code of Ethics & Practice, which helps to ensure I provide a supportive, ethical and professional service. |
